My Target Audience

Back in 2010, I really didn't focus on my target audience too much because I just wanted to film the stuff I loved as a kid. The short films themselves were targeted to anyone who liked fantasy and epic battles. Little did I realize that the stuff I liked was stuff that mostly guys liked.

Now as far as the books are concerned, I'm aiming for the new adult audience. Yes, the main protagonist is a teenager, but there are many other point of view characters that are much older than Josh. Take Josh's brother, Nick, who is 26 years old, or Zelda Shi who is 23, or Mew Evans who is 19.

I suppose my main desire is to make a world where one's college life can last as long as they want. In my view, your college years are the most golden years of your life. You're not around childish high school students, you're away from your parents, you can drink, explore your sexuality, and above all, you have access to higher knowledge. However, college is not all fun. It's full with dark times too. Just because my characters have superpowers, doesn't mean they're immune to the dark side of life.

Lastly, my books are targeted to those with foster parents or have foster siblings. If you take Josh and Nick, for example, my readers will find out very quickly that the two brothers have no biological connection with each other. But as I have witnessed in my life, family does not require blood connects. My strongest proof of this is what I see happening in the gay community. There have been a lot of gay children, over the years, that have been disowned by their parents. Those disowned children have no choice but to find new families in the gay community. Families, to me, are bonds between people and have nothing to do with blood or skin color. Anyone who can appreciate this notion will be able to enjoy my books.

In conclusion, my books are targeted to the mature. But if others, such as young adults in their teens, like my books, then I rest easy knowing that my books are touching the hearts of a younger generation.
